Moneris Solutions Corporation (“Moneris”), one of North America’s leading credit and debit card processors, today announced support for Apple Pay in Canada for eligible American Express cardholders. Apple recently announced they will be partnering with American Express to bring Apple Pay to Canada for eligible customers. As the largest payment processor in Canada servicing more than 350,000 merchant locations, Moneris is payment ready today with 85 per cent of Moneris terminals currently in use today contactless-capable and able to accept the Apple Pay tap.
“With Apple Pay, Canadians now have another seamless and secure choice for how they want to pay, said Angela Brown, CEO, Moneris Solutions. “We are ready and excited to make those purchases happen.”
With iOS accounting for 38% of smartphones in Canada1, retailers should prepare for consumers looking to pay in-store and within apps with iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch as soon as Apple Pay is live. According to the Moneris Q3 2015 quarterly spend report, contactless spending is rising significantly – by 162 per cent year over year – demonstrating growing appetite for this new payment option. Moneris is a technology leader in digital payment from both the front-end consumer experience to back-end requirements, and is in the best position to help Canadian businesses support this new mobile wallet.
Most of Moneris’ customers, including Indigo Books, have their contactless terminals ready to accept Apple Pay.
“At Indigo we take a lot of pride in providing the services our customers want, including ensuring we accept their preferred method of payment,” said Sumit Oberai, CIO at Indigo. “Apple Pay is coming to Canada and in working with Moneris, we will be able to accept that payment method in store as soon as it’s available.”
Within the Western Canada region, Moneris customer London Drugs Limited looks forward to offering the new payment service to customers.
“At London Drugs, the arrival of Apple Pay in Canada allows us to continue to deliver the latest payment innovation to customers,” said Laird Miller, CFO at London Drugs Limited. “Apple Pay coming to Canada represents another step forward for Canadian consumers looking for a greater variety of payment options, and with the help of Moneris, we are able to seamlessly offer our customers the Apple Pay experience as soon as it’s launched.”
For businesses looking to integrate Apple Pay in-app payments into iOS apps, Moneris will be working closely with the developer community. More details will be provided later this year.
All point-of-sale solutions shipped from Moneris come with the ability to accept contactless payments, including integrated or standalone terminals, whether wired or wireless. Moneris’ innovative mobile point-of-sale solutions – PAYD Pro™ and PAYD Pro Plus™ – are equipped with a tap-enabled Moneris PAYD™ PIN Pad allowing Apple Pay with American Express to be used anywhere a sale takes place. Setting up a contactless payment system is seamless with the support of Moneris Field Services, who can install the terminals and train merchants on their use.
